1. The importance of having energy.

People are tired. Many people. The number of people doing a Google search each month on just the word "tired" is in the thousands and thousands. There are an equal number searching on the word "fatigue". Why are so many people so tired? The sheer pace of change, high workloads, the availability of endless social activities, the pressure to take the children here, there and everywhere, the free availability of junk food, the difficulties in saying "No" to demands, – the list of factors contributing to a loss of energy is enormous.

Yet having energy can make such a big difference in our lives. When we are tired we can become ill, as we can't be bothered to look after ourselves as much as when we have energy. Tiredness can also contribute to grumpiness and irritation. We are far more likely to snap at someone when we are tired than when we are happy. Our relationships can therefore be better when we have energy. Tiredness can also kill. Car accidents, workplace accidents, mishaps at home, and so on, can all be caused by tiredness. We are safer when we have a sense of vitality, alertness and energy. We are probably also nicer people to be around. Energetic people are often inspiring people. So how can you have more energy? Read on to the tips section to find out.

2. Latest news: New Energy CDs out on 28th February 2007: Orders open.

It has been an exciting couple of months. A new CD set is completely finished on "How to have abundant energy and feel fully alive." The editing of a second CD set "How to have a happy marriage and avoid the cost of a divorce" has just finished and is now going to the graphic designer. And my biggest project ever, 2 more CD sets on "Confidence for women" and "Overcoming the fear of public speaking" are currently being recorded. Finally, a new E-book will be out by the end of February too on "How to write Press Releases". So, it will be a good year with something for everyone.

CDs will be released about every two months during this year and available world-wide. All will be announced first in this newsletter with special offers, so stay tuned! The first special offer is in this newsletter – read on to section 4.

3. Top tips on how to overcome tiredness.

There is so much I can say on this but I have just selected five of the many possible tips – more will be covered on the website in later months and more on the CDs.

Tip A. Know if you are doing too much.

Some tiredness is caused by trying to do too much. Superwoman and Superman are alive and well – but exhausted! A colleague was saying to me the other day that he thinks the invention and availability of the motor car has made life far more exhausting for people. A mother (and father) is now expected to be able to do three times as much as in the old days when a trip into town would have taken all day on a horse and buggy. Now she is expected to drive to the shops to get something, take the children to a party, pick up other children from hockey, drop off a birthday present at a friend's, go and see an ageing father, fit in a full day's work plus the housework, and be able to watch the TV, and all in one day! The trouble is we don't realise how unrealistic this is because nearly everyone else around us is on the same treadmill. So the first thing to do is to stop and write down everything you are trying to fit into a day. Write EVERYTHING down each day for 7 days, no matter how small an event. Then take a look at it – are you doing too much? It is important that you know this.

Tip B: Say "No Thank you".

When there is too much going on we need to be able to say "No", however wonderful the invitation. There will always be enticing invitations! I get invited to many things: coffee with people, attending functions, going to dinner, joining good causes, being on committees, mentoring people, going to parties, attending conferences, having people come to visit – the list is endless. But stop. Do I want to say "Yes" to everything? No, I don't, not even if it sounds fantastic. Why? Because I know in the end there is too much to do, and I can't say "Yes" to everything. Even Superman and Superwoman are much nicer people if they have a good, full night's sleep. One of the ways I say "No" is to say, "Thanks ever so much for asking me, it sounds lovely. I am not going to be able to make it, my life is FULL!" Yes, "My life is full" is my statement to indicate that there is no room for more. I much prefer it to saying "I am too busy". Do you need to learn to say "No" to come off the frantic treadmill?

Tip C: Have a medical check-up.

Don't skimp on medical check-ups. There are all sorts of medical conditions that can contribute to fatigue and tiredness. If you are tired often, unusually, or for a long time, find a good doctor and have a good medical check-up. And, if there is something that needs to be attended to, attend to it.

Tip D: Clean up your thinking.

Carrying hurts from the past, thinking negative thoughts, and talking up the things that go wrong or that are lacking in your life can all contribute to tiredness. I know this for myself. Ditch the negativity. There is no evidence whatsoever that it does you any good. It eats away at your energy. Express your gratitude for the things that go right, for what you have. Think kind thoughts about other people. These will all charge your energy battery.

Tip 5. Test your food.

Test what you eat. I talk a lot more about this on the "Energy for Living" CDs but will explain it briefly here. Individual people are affected in different ways by the different foods they eat. Learn what foods drain your energy and which lift your energy. Simply notice after you have eaten something the effect on you. Are you drowsy or sluggish? Or are you alert and bouncing with energy? Once you have found out that, eat the foods that boost your energy.

4. How you can learn more about energy.

"Energy For Living: How to have abundant energy and feel fully alive. An ENERGY MAKE-OVER for women who feel tired, run-down or depleted."

Ever feel that your energy is flagging, that you're tired, and sick of being tired? Do you deserve better? Yes! Then I will talk you through the seven key ways to keep energy flowing. I have tried every way myself and found it to work. In fact, I live the ideas on these CDs – they describe in detail how I personally manage to avoid fatigue and keep my energy levels flowing despite being busy, running full day workshops, managing a high workload, and so on. I lead you through practical activities and self-tests to get your energy back, so you can be the woman you want to be. Become your own energy expert. Stop the tiredness. Apply these ideas to your own life, and learn how to feel fully alive and vibrant. Order this unique 2 CD set now and reduce fatigue. Only $39, with no extra for postage or packing, world-wide.

Bonus: If you pay for a copy of "Energy for Living" in February, then you will receive a FREE bar of Lindt Dark 70% CHOCOLATE with your CDs. Dark chocolate is said to be much better for you than milk chocolate and I think it is yummy! You must order through our On-line Book and CD store to be eligible for the free chocolate bar. Don't miss out - hurry as this offer closes 28th February 2007. Order now! The CDs will be sent to you as close to the 28th February 2007 as possible.

5. Laugh your socks off.

Thanks to Marg Webb, Osborne Park Hospital Campus, for this joke. It is made even funnier because of the setting Marg heard it in. It was told to her by her "Priest at Midnight Mass".

Little Johnny: "Mum. Can I have a bike for Christmas? A red one?"
Mum: "I don't know Johnny. You haven't been a very good boy this year. You'd better go upstairs and write a letter to God."

So little Johnny goes up stairs and writes a letter to God.

Dear God,
I've been a really good boy this year, so can I please have a new bike for Christmas? A red one.
Love Johnny.

Johnny then re-reads his letter and screws it up and throws it in the bin. He then tries again.

Dear God,
I have not been too bad this year, so can I please have a new bike for Christmas? A red one.
Love Johnny.

Johnny then re-reads his letter and screws it up and throws it in the bin and goes downstairs to see his mum.

Johnny: "Mum. Can I go to Church?"

Mum thinks, "Wow it's finally working!"

Mum: "Of course Johnny, but be back by 4.30 pm."

So off Johnny goes to the Church. He kneels in front of the Nativity, looks around to make sure no-one is watching and takes the statue of Mary and puts it inside his jacket and goes home.

He goes up to his room and sits down to write to God.

Dear God,
I would like a bike for Christmas. A red one and you'd better give it to me if you want to see your mother again!
Signed
You know who it's from.

If you have some clean jokes we can use, please send your contributions to

May you be full of energy and feel vibrant and vital.

Until next fortnight,
With kindness,
Rachel.
