o

Twenty-one chapters will prove to you that life can begin at forty, fifty or fifty-eight. That life can be better than it ever was. And what you want to know more than anything ... is how to be happy, isn't it?

o

Take a step inside the real lives of the seven men and seven women in Midlife and Happiness and you will find a rich gift to support you on your journey to health and happiness in your middle years. What readers have said

"Your "Midlife and Happiness" book has amazed me. You have shown so much courage and so much honesty. Sharing your inner most thoughts and feelings to a trusted friend or counsellor is one thing but to put it on the printed page, as you have done, is very brave. It was a relief to find I was not alone in going through my doubts and fears. Thank you for a wonderful book."
Stella Wong, Nurse, Perth, Australia.

"I was so enthralled with your book that I read it in 2 days - and I can not find the words to adequately express my gratitude for the gift of yourself in it. I've been filled with its hugeness and with your giving for weeks, trying to find a way to express my almost disbelief that anyone could express such growth in such a raw and beautiful way. Your self revelations are honest and courageous beyond belief. Your positive approach to your mother and your generosity of spirit to her are humbling & inspiring. And my response is all bumbling - there are no words to express what your book does to this reader - and, I suspect, many others. I wonder if you have any idea of the profound impact your writing has on people. I thank you."
Hera Sandison, Author of "Handwriting Secrets and Your Success", Adelaide.

Hi Rachel, I have just finished "Midlife and Happiness", having borrowed it from the local library and loved it! There were so many things that I could relate to. I cried, chuckled and did lots of head nodding as I am focusing on enjoying my mid-life as opportunities. Thank you for your inspiration. (I am now buying my own copy and I would love your autograph in your wonderful book.) Thank you.
Jo Payne. Australia. October 2008.

How easy is it to read?

o

The descriptions in "Midlife and Happiness" are humourous, sad, unpredictable, reflective, challenging, informative, fascinating, courageous and true. They make a rivetting read and there is something for every Baby Boomer.

o

The stories are written by fourteen people, all between the ages of forty and sixty one. It is a diverse group from Australian, British, New Zealand, Chinese, Dutch and American backgrounds. The writers are female and male; married, divorced and single; Christian, Jewish, Buddhist and atheist; and of varying personality types as measured by the Myers Briggs Personality Inventory (MBTI). But above all else the group is wonderfully human.

o

Each chapter starts with an inspiring quote and Midlife and Happiness also contains two beautiful poems and some very funny cartoons.

o

The key contributor is Rachel Green, award-winning communication specialist and Emotional Intelligence coach. Seven chapters cover the stages of her life and the problems she has faced and conquered in her mid life.

o

Her descriptions of living through panic attacks, overcoming sleeplessness and coping with the death of her father are quite extraordinary. The letter she wrote to say goodbye to her grandfather is deeply moving and inspiring. Her journey to connect with a nourishing spiritual life, her description of happiness in her marriage and her success in finding happiness no matter what brings hope. You even hear all the different ways she planned to celebrate her 50th birthday - for 50 days with 50 friends.

o

It is her raw honesty and her willingness to display her innermost vulnerabilities that makes this book utterly unique and uplifting.

o

There are further special and authentic contributions from: Grytsje Doust, Frank Ince, Elle Glazer, Michael Done, Sandra Irons, Lorena Sun Butcher, Phillip Gray, Kevin Hume, Ian, Laurel Cooper, Jon Doust, Michele Hults and Michael Green.

o

Midlife and Happiness contains so much it is hard to summerise it in just a few bullet points. However, in-depth and personal discussions are provided in the following five major areas:
- The changes, problems and issues that may occur at midlife and how to come out on top of them.
- Identity issues and how to be your true self and your absolute best.
- Love, sex, affairs and how to have happy relationships.
- Ways to find the meaning of life and spiritual fulfilment.
- The keys to lasting happiness.

o

This is not a book about the menopause! Midlife is far more than the menopause. Nor is it a book about the gloom and doom of midlife crises. It is far more than that. It is about success, triumph and the ways to happiness. Midlife and Happiness has much in it of interest to both men and women.

Here's what one male reader said ...

"Your book is just wonderful. I would like to thank-you for being brave enough to put your thoughts into print. There is no doubt in my mind this book should be mandatory reading to anybody going into midlife. Although I have only just read the book, I can assure you it will stay with me for a very long time. It can provide others with a better mindset, so they can go confidently and happily way beyond midlife. This book is so good I do not have to wish you good luck with it.
A very happy and grateful,"__

o

If you want to increase your self-confidence and happiness, then this book will show you how.

o

Finally, if you simply just want a good read, then some of the stories of finding happiness, even when everything seems to be going wrong, are truly amazing. Read how Elle overcame potential tragedy and followed her dreams. The story itself is amazing, heartwarming and true. And then there was Grytsje, who in her 40's, fulfilled her lifelong dream to be a ballet dancer ... and Frank who won orienteering championships in his late 50s because he started a family in his 40s and had to keep fit to keep up!

Let these wonderful people and their stories inspire you to be you best over 40 or 50. There is so much that is still possible.

What Others Have Said

Chapter 21 is an absolute jewel. Brilliant! A crystal clear and moving account of one person's authentic midlife spiritual journey, deeply felt and truly lived. Helen Thomas, Social Worker.

Absolutely stunning - the letter to grandad is truly memorable and leaves an indelible impression. The book is worth buying for this alone. Jen Froome, Lifeskills Counsellor, Margaret River.

I am an ENFJ - your book is very interesting and has inspired me to reflect further on my life. - Jillian Woolmer, Healthy Lifestyle Program Coordinator, Curtin University.

I have been inspired by Midlife And Happiness to sort out my problems. I always try for a short time and give up thinking, "oh well that's just how it is, I'm stuck with it". But you have shown me that by staying with the problems for much longer I could actually be without them. Inspirational. Sarah MacDonald, Music teacher.

I really enjoyed reading your book. It is a great relief not to feel compelled to hang on to "youth" but to focus on how to be the best I can for myself and others in this great life stage (I am 52). Thank you so much Rachel - you have given me lots to think about. It is great to have something to set me back on a highly positive track as sometimes I slip off. Sheila Norton, Frontline Management Co-ordinator, Bunbury, WA.
