Noel McNaughton, 60, self employed speaker, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Name

Noel McNaughton

Age

60 (in about 2 weeks)

Job/Major interest

Self employed speaker, coach and consultant. Area of greatest interest is creating a healthy earth and helping people see their way forward.

Where I live

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The best thing about being over 40

Finally know enough to be useful at something.

The worst thing about being over 40

Body is not as resilient as it used to be.

My one regret

That I got married again within a year of my first wife's death.

What I know now that I wish I'd known at 21

Where do I start! How to play my part in creating an honest, caring and loving relationship.

How I'll celebrate my next birthday

May invite a whole bunch of friends for a BIG 60th birthday.

One thing I've achieved since being 40

Learned a way to farm that does not ruin the land and the people.

My goals for the next 10 years

Make as big a contribution as possible in helping people take better care of the earth, and grow spiritually/personally. Get my first book published, and write a couple more. Launch a regular podcast on growing as a human being.

How I keep healthy

Eat healthy, organic fruit and vegetables, grass-finished beef, lamb and bison, and pastured chickens. Work out three times a week.

The people who inspire me

Anyone who lives by their principles, follows their soul's urgings, and speaks their truth.

Favourite hobby

Playing bluegrass guitar.

Favourite TV/Radio programme or magazine

Magazines: Harpers, Walrus, Alberta Views, What Is Enlightenment?

Favourite Music

Most forms of classical, especially baroque; jazz - especially traditional and cool; opera.

Favourite Sound

Contented sound of cattle grazing on a quiet evening when they have just been moved onto new pasture. Songs of robins, warblers, white-throated sparrows in the background.

My advice to other people in midlife

Pay attention to your life. See what truth is being presented to you. Embrace the difficulties to see what gifts they bring, learn to tune into higher wisdom, be honest with yourself and others. With luck and persistence you will become an elder in time, rather than simply becoming elderly.

One of my favourite sayings

This too shall pass.
