Webinars: What is a webinar?
 | Quite simply it is a live seminar held on your computer. Instead of sitting in a room full of people watching a presenter, you sit at your computer listening to the presenter.
| | You hear the presenter speaking and see her power-point slides and photographs at the same time. The slides will be presented as she speaks just like a face-to-face seminar.
| | There may be more than one presenter so you hear different voices.
| | You do not see Rachel and no one sees you.
| | You may hear some of the other participants if they wish to ask a question out-loud.
| | You may write down and send questions throughout it.
| | You may be given the opportunity to vote in polls, be involved in surveys or join in a competition.
| | Each webinar will last an hour.
| | Each one will be on an expert topic of direct practical value.
| | Each one, like a seminar, will cover a range of skills in the specific area.
|
The easy part for you is you do not have to travel anywhere.
All you need is a computer on which you can listen, an hour of your time and an Internet connection.
Broadband is preferable, but dial-up will usually still work, just not as well.
|
The five advantages of webinars
- You do not have to travel anywhere to attend, so it is ideal if you are busy at work or at home and can't afford to spend much time away.
- You get direct access to Rachel, the presenter, wherever you are, whether you are in rural, remote areas, in big cities or small towns.
- Your level of involvement is completely under your control.
 | You can be anonymous, no other webinar participant need know you are there. This is ideal for those of you who are shy, anxious or famous.
| | Or, you can send questions in advance and have Rachel answer them during the webinar.
| | Or, you can type questions during the webinar and send them to Rachel to answer.
| | Or, providing you have a microphone, you can indicate you have a question during the webinar and be heard asking the question.
|
